Prolific – Get Paid To Do Online Surveys

09.03.2020 by admin //

In my r/Beermoney post I discovered a lot of sites others were using to make money online that I hadn’t heard of. Armed with this new list I set out to see which ones were worthwhile pursuing. Now a number of the list were sites where you get paid to do online surveys, I knew these existed but I’d always remembered them as being a load of surveys that you get paid next to nothing for and largely was a waste of time. Well it turns out things have developed since then and Prolific is a prime example.

Prolific - get paid to do online surveys
Prolific – get paid to do online surveys

The premise is simple. Prolific is a site where researchers from whatever background can find research participants they can trust. Launch your study to tens of thousands of trusted participants in minutes and recruit niche or representative samples on-demand.  Now if you want these trustworthy high quality participants, like with most things in life, you have to pay for them.

As such its not so much that you get paid to do surveys online, its more that you are a paid research participant in an academic study or marketing questionnaire. So far I’ve done surveys ranging from ‘would you buy this product?’ to an academic study on if you can tell if someone is ill just from a picture of their face. Its because there is a genuine need for accurate responses that the lowest you can get paid to do this is $6.50 an hour. Some pay much more and its based on an estimate of how long the survey will take which is often very generous.

Getting Going

Getting going is also incredibly easy.

  1. Sign up
  2. Verify your email
  3. Fill out your about you section . The most time consuming bit of the process is what means there is no post survey screening which is very annoying on other sites.
About you categories help you get more surveys
The about you categories.

4. Install Prolific extension. I use google chrome. Although not a mandatory step is very useful. This extension will audibly alert you to when a new study comes in meaning you will almost never miss a sign up or find that the study is full by the time you get to it.

5. Wait for your first survey!

Now currently this is a small sample size as I’ve only been up and running for just under 48 hours but I’d say its every 2-3 hours I’ve been awake that one has come in. They’ve ranged from paying £0.18 to £3 for the actual survey and in terms of per hour anywhere from the £4.90 minimum to £23. I’ve been offered 7 surveys so far, I’ve done 6 and been paid £8.35 for what was about 30 minutes work overall. I mean you certainly aren’t retiring off it alone, its a nice side earner though. Say I end up averaging half of what I have over this tiny sample then that is still £60 a month for very little work and no outlay. You also get paid through PayPal which is better than some that pay in vouchers.

Summary

+ Easy to use
+ Reasonable hourly rate
+ Pays in cash via PayPal at a low threshold of £5
+ Studies can be quite interesting

– Have to wait for studies to be offered
– Occasional questions planted to check you are paying attention/are a human

All in all I’m very pleased with my limited exposure to Prolific. Even if I stop now I’m £6.35 better off for very little effort.

Best Ways To Earn Some Extra Beer Money

09.01.2020 by admin //

I’m currently researching into some new areas that I haven’t explored previously. I threw myself down a Reddit rabbit hole to see what I could find. After a few side hustle related podcasts and some what I could only assume were pyramid schemes (apparently not even Covid can get rid of them) I stumbled across r/beermoney. A subreddit dedicated to the best ways to earn some extra beer money (Other beverages do exist). There’s no get rich quick schemes here and it makes that clear from the outset with this description:

r/beermoney is a community for discussing the best ways to earn some extra money online
You shouldn’t expect to make a living, but it is possible to make extra cash on the side

This is exactly what I’m looking for, just a few extra things to keep it turning over. I hit a snag very early in that the subreddit is mainly aimed at the US. Fortunately there is r/BeermoneyUK, a UK version that although is smaller it still works off the same concept. A few hours of research digging through historical posts and threads on there and I came across one user who had posted the main sites he had used over the last month. He also put what each site earned him and it came to a very handy £163.08! He mainly used the following as they were his best ways to earn some extra beer money:

  • Prolific – His top earner. A site where you are paid for your participation in research studies. Companies, PHD students, universities etc need participants from certain demographics to fill in surveys and you can get paid to do it.
  • Amazon Mechanical Turk – A crowdsourcing marketplace for individuals and businesses to outsource their processes and jobs virtually. This could include anything from conducting simple data validation and research to more subjective tasks like survey participation, content moderation, and more.
  • Neevo – Much the same as the above two describing itself as ‘Simply sign up, do tasks, and get paid to help shape the future.’
  • Serpclix – A simple get paid to visit websites milarky. Sites want their click through rates increased to help with SEO and you get paid to be that click.
  • Upvoice – Reffered to as the easiest browser extension to earn from. You just install the extension and visit any of the participating sites and you get 10 tokens per day. 600 tokens = $10 gift card for amazon
  • ySense – Another Survey site
  • UserTesting – This one comes highly recommended and apparently can be a decent earner. Its based around testing websites and apps and getting paid to do so
  • Qmee – A survey site with the rare advantage of there being no minimum cashout.

So quite a few for me to start investigating! I’m going to start working through them and will put up a full post on each one when I know the ins and outs of them better.

In terms of more immediate earnings I’ve got another casino offer on the go so imagine that will be the next update.

It All Starts With One Step

08.28.2020 by admin //

As alluded to yesterday I decided to kick things off with a casino offer. Luckily years ago when I was doing a lot of these offers it was more efficient for me to just target the bigger offers, so I’ve still got a few of these lower entry level ones available to me. Should come in useful over the first month or so of this project.

One of the ones I never got round to was Play Ojo which is £10 deposit for 50 free spins, have to roll over your deposit once before withdrawing. Only about a £5 profit expected value which isn’t great but isn’t terrible. Bit of scouring and via this site I found a link that would make it 90 free spins instead. Pushing the EV up to a £8.50 profit. Much more appealing. It all starts with one step and this seemed like as good a first step to take as any.

So its not a risk free offer but the risk is pretty low. The standard strategy here is to play out the free spins and then roll over the deposit once on blackjack allowing you to withdraw. Blackjack being the game of choice as it has the lowest house edge available. The RTP or return to player is about 99.5% on premium blackjack. So on average our £10 we need to roll through should only lose 5p. Now the minimum bet is £1 on the site which raises the variance a touch but to lose 10 hands in a row if we follow an optimal strategy is still only a 0.2% chance.

On With The Offer

So I signed up, and went to deposit. This site requires verification documents before you deposit which to be honest I quite like. Most sites will require certain documents before you withdraw any winnings. Now I’ve never had any verification issues but if you submit these documents before depositing and get approval then you know that there will be no issues getting your money out. The documents usually required are:

  • Proof of identity (Driving license, passport etc)
  • Proof of address (any utility bill, bank statement etc)
  • Proof of deposit (Photo of front and back of card used to deposit)

A standard photo taken with your phone usually suffices or a pdf of a bill if you have one is also good.

Took only a few hours to get approval then I cracked on with the free spins.

This was about as good as my wins got

The spins didn’t go great, with a couple of wins in the £1 region about as good as it got. I finished the free spins having made £3.45 meaning I was well below expected EV heading into the roll over part. Not ideal. But we head into the roll over section with £13.45 in the account

Blackjack Rollover Time

I fired up a blackjack strategy chart to refresh myself of what to do when in order to lose the least. I used to know it off by heart from the countless offers I did but that knowledge is long gone. We got off to a cracking start, first card was a queen for me looking at a dealers 3, which is a double, dealer then busts putting us up £2 from the first hand. This gave us some nice room with 9 hands still to go. Few pushes later, couple of wins and one loss we finish the last hand up £4 from the blackjack rollover!

A push on the final hand locks us in up £4 on the rollover

Summary

Whole process probably took 15 minutes in terms of playing the spins and the blackjack rollover. We made £3.45 on the spins (way below the EV) but instead of losing on the rollover portion we got lucky made £4 on the blackjack bit leaving us up £7.45 overall. So it evened itself out nicely to just under our expected value for the whole offer. £10 in £17.45 out.

Withdrawal approved and money on its way

Withdrawal was immediately approved and we have taken our capital up to £17.45. It will usually take a couple of days for the money to come through. Giving me some time to think about the next move. It all starts with one step and that first step has now been taken.
